This is a headless statue of a very elegant lady at Salamis, near Famagusta, most likely from the Classical period (475 - 325 B.C.).
She is currently standing in what was the gymnasium, although she was probably originally displayed in the theatre area.
Salamis was the capital of Cyprus from 750 - 325 B.C., but was destroyed by earthquakes in the 4th century A.D.
All of the statues there are headless, their heads being "knocked off" by early Christians.
The reason for using her on the Home page is because it is still a lovely statue,
in very good condition, in spite of the damage to her head,
therefore symbolising something timeless and lasting.
Hopefully like C.P.M.C.
